Your Kit-Cat clock sleep companion

How to Use the App

  1. Watch the demo — Tap "Start" and watch the Kit-Cat's eyes demonstrate the eye movement pattern: up & down, left & right, clockwise circle, counter-clockwise circle, and cross-eyed focus.
  2. Practice along — After the demo, audio cues guide you through each movement. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Wind down — Choose to repeat the exercise, set a sleep timer, or turn on ambient sounds (rain, pink noise, or ocean waves).
  4. Sleep — When you're ready to actually fall asleep, close your eyes and perform the eye movements from memory. The ambient sounds and sleep timer will gently fade out.

The Eye Movement Technique

The eye movement sleep technique involves performing specific patterns with your eyes closed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system:

These movements are thought to stimulate the vagus nerve via the oculocardiac reflex, slowing your heart rate and triggering your body's "rest and digest" response.

Note: This technique is based on anecdotal evidence and has not been clinically validated. It is not a substitute for medical advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I do this with my eyes open or closed?

The app teaches you the movements with your eyes open so you can follow along with the Kit-Cat. When you're actually trying to fall asleep, perform the movements with your eyes closed.

How many times should I repeat the sequence?

Repeat as many times as you need. Most people find 3-5 cycles effective, but there's no limit.

Does the app collect any data?

No. SleepyKittyCat collects zero data. No accounts, no analytics, no network requests. Everything stays on your device.

Can I use just the ambient sounds without the exercise?

Yes! Tap the speaker icon on the home screen to access ambient sounds directly, with an optional sleep timer.

Why a Kit-Cat clock?

The classic Kit-Cat clock's moving eyes are the perfect way to demonstrate eye movement patterns. Plus, it's nostalgic and calming!
